Geoffrey Hinton, a professor at the University of Toronto in Canada, and known as the "godfather" of artificial intelligence (AI), who won the Nobel Prize in Physics (for establishing the foundations of AI machine learning, 2024), has warned about the dangers of AI.
According to the British daily newspaper, the Guardian, on December 27 (local time), Professor Hinton expressed his concerns on BBC Radio that the rapid development of AI technology could pose an existential threat to humanity.
Professor Hinton said that when he first started AI research, he did not anticipate such rapid development. He pointed out that "most experts believe that an AI smarter than a human will be developed within 20 years, which is a very frightening prospect."
He said, "Leaving it only to profit-seeking corporations may not be enough." He emphasized that "the only way to force large corporations to do more research on safety is through government regulation."

Professor Hinton has made significant contributions to the development of artificial intelligence (AI), worked as a vice president at Google, and received the Nobel Prize in Physics this year. He says that the speed of AI development is faster than he anticipated, and humans may remain relatively like three-year-old toddlers.
Knowledge and wisdom apart from God paradoxically lead to self-destruction.
Therefore, we must diligently absorb knowledge of history, culture, and science based on the truth of the Bible and use it for the purpose of multiplying and flourishing, as given to humanity.
We must be able to distinguish between what belongs to God, which possesses the attribute of holiness, and human greed and boasting, which lack holiness. This distinction can be made through discernment and wisdom given by the Holy Spirit, and through this discernment, humanity can escape the path to destruction.
